The first barbecue we sold wasn’t just our first barbecue, it was THE first barbecue. Yes, in 1948, Char-Broil brought the first charcoal barbecue to market. Since then we’ve introduced innovations that are now standard among modern barbecues. With products like our oil-less turkey fryer and the unique TRU®-Infrared™ Cooking System, the evolution continues today. So whilst we can’t take the credit for your cooking on a barbecue, we are working on constantly improving the barbecue itself – for your outdoor cooking experience.

With our experience we have been innovating to make cooking on barbecues easier, affordable, and more memorable. As a result, our greatest triumphs can be traced across gardens and patios in America and Europe. As we look ahead, our aim is to continue improving the outdoor cooking experience for everyone, everywhere.

The original charcoal barbecue

In 1948, we presented America with its first charcoal barbecue. While outdoor cooking was unheard of at the time, the leisure that came with it quickly turned the barbecue experience into an outdoor tradition. From that moment forward, Char-Broil® continued to set the standards with even more firsts, including portable, electric, and gas barbecues with electric ignition.
